Please find me somebody to love

Doogle here-

No more marbles, healthy shiny skin and my big heart means I am ready to find a forever home, forever and ever!

Do you know anybody who wants a sweet wiener puppy? I would love a fur brother or sister to play with and snuggle.  I am a Dachshund so my house training isn’t perfect but I am getting better and want so badly to please my humans.

I have my paws crossed that I will find as much love and care that my foster parents have given me and I make CDR proud!

Will YOU love me?

Gumbah & Willow’s story

May 25, 2010 at 6:28 am • Posted in K5 Comments

Hey I want some German grandparents too!  And a nice kid to squish me….

Gumbah  (pronounced goom-bah)  here.  I’m a pet store puppy.  A pricey one, might I add. My kid owner (aka Jovi) wanted a bunny. She’s really good at pulling the “but-I’m-an-only-child” card.  But mom isn’t stupid.  She knew the kid would lose interest in no time, and she’d be stuck cleaning that stinking cage.   So she pushed for a dog instead.  They found me at Square One Shopping Mall in Mississauga.  The folks in the store knew nothing about me.  They had gotten me in from another store where I had failed to sell (did I mention my hefty price tag?).   The kid asked to “hold the puppy”, had enough sense to not put me back into the stupid display case, and home I was.   At this time I have to give a shout out to the German grandparents who picked up the tab (trust me, I wasn’t cheap!).
Now unlike some (here’s looking at you, Frankie) I’m a social dachsie.  So it was agreed I needed a companion.  Mom’s sister works for the small dog rescue in Atlanta, and she was thoroughly disgusted a relative of hers had gotten a pet store puppy.  So she emailed mom the link to the CDR website.  But some meanie (Frankie???) had put a note up saying folks with kids need not apply.   Anyway, at the time the site featured a dog called Ms. Dash, who seemed to have a tough time finding a home.   So mom thought she’d give it a try.   Turned out Ms. Dash already had an adoption pending. But there was a wire girl like me whose adoption had just fallen through.  We were matched up and that’s how Willow came to live with us.

Got to hand it to her, she’s a smart one.   She had only been with us for 5 days, but when the German grandpa got lost taking her out for a walk, she was able to show him back home.   She’s also the bossy one around here.  You don’t wanna come near her when she’s guarding a bone or her favourite stuffy.  She’d probably even put Frankie in his place.

Andy’s story

Andy found some “crazy” love in his forever home!

Andy wasn’t his name when he came to CDR.  He was named after a character in the Harry Potter series.  I wasn’t familiar with that name and didn’t much care for it, so we named him Andy.  Nice and short and goes well with Buddy.  The Crazyman and I thought that it would be nice for Buddy to have company.  Buddy wasn’t too keen on that idea.  Andy was given to CDR coz he has very bad seizures and the household was having a difficult time with that.  We didn’t care if he had them or not.  He had the seizures often for the first month.  Then he started to learn to relax and his seizures are now three months apart or more.

We met foster mom Mary in Burlington and picked up Andy.  Andy cried and cried and was a stressed out little pup.  He barked at the furnace when it went on, he barked at the car door slamming across the street, he barked at all the garbage bags out on the street on garbage day.  He barked most of the night for a few weeks. He was very skittish and scared couldn’t touch his tail or his ribs. We got the impression that he was hit too many times or even got a boot in the ribs.

I am his and no one else’s.  He follows me everywhere even if it’s from the kitchen sink to the fridge, I should have named him Shadow.  Every time we come back from anywhere, even the groomer’s, he’s a more relaxed dog.  he finally knows that he’ll be home.

He loves playing with his stuffed moose and knows it by name.  He runs upstairs when he knows it’s time for bed and jumps onto the bed for his bed time snack.  He sings with the Crazyman.  Yup, he’s spoiled and he loves it.

He’s a very good puppy and he’s all mine!!!!!!!

Molly’s story

Molly’s story is like a real live fairy tail!

My name is Molly and I am a rescue.I have 3 wiener brothers and a Westie brother.  My family dumped me when my back went and I was only 5 years old!  My foster mom loved me very much and she still visits me.  I couldn’t walk and I had to wear diapers.  My forever mommy took me to a chiropractor and now I can walk and run with my brothers. I am LOVED! I will be 7 in June. Hoping to go to the picnic so everyone can see that we wieners are strong and can be helped if you give us the love and therapy.

Spanky’s story

Meet Spanky – the Spankenator, Baron von Spankster, Spankenstein….

My name is Spanky & I’m the handsome guy on the left.  I’m a CDR rescue.  My sister Abby is a private rescue. We’re both tweenies.  We may look like we’re ignoring each other but we’re just trying to give you our best profile.  I came from Oromocto NB where people didn’t want me because I “marked”.  Some very kind people took me in, had me checked by a doctor & found a home for me in Ontario.  Many people helped by driving me across the country until my new family could pick me up.  Mum says I was pretty shell-shocked by the long drive.  Now I have a wonderful home with a sister, treats, a ball, chipmunks & birds to chase & a road & a lake to guard and protect.  My days are very busy so I have to rest up a lot in the sunshine.  Mum says I don’t “mark”;  I just have accidents when my routine is upset so mostly it’s OK and I don’t get scolded or yelled at.  Abby & I follow this blog every day & we’re so grateful to all the people at CDR who look after wieners who need homes.  Bless you all!

Emma’s story

May 20, 2010 at 12:34 pm • Posted in K10 Comments

Emma could be a super wiener model!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Emma, I’m Roo’s sister. I came from what mom calls a “puppy mill” way up in Sudbury Ontario. Mom answered an ad on the internet that said “free unwanted dachshund puppies”!  Can you imagine a dachshund that is UNWANTED that has to be unheard of, but to mom’s surprise there are allot of us “unwanted” dachshunds out there. Anyway, mom met this lady and soon became very suspicious of the puppies. The lady handed me over to mom and when mom took a look at me she soon found out I was a very sick little girl. Mom then told the lady she would take me. As soon as we got home mom took me to the dog doctor and found out I had a very bad eye & ear infection, was full of worms and had coccidia.  No wonder my litter mates & I were “free” we were all very sick. Well, that was 3 years ago now and I am a full grown standard weenie girl NOT the mini mom was told I was when she took me home that day back in May 2007. Mom calls me Emmalicious because I am sweet like a chocolate bar!

Buddy’s story

May 19, 2010 at 7:09 pm • Posted in K6 Comments

Now here’s an older fella I could spoon with!  Call me Buddy!

Buddy was a loved little dog that lived with a senior lady since he was a pup.  The senior lady must have trained buddy very well.  Buddy loves to meet people and even likes to go up to cats and touch noses.  He stays in the backyard without a leash or tied up, he rarely strays of the property.   When Buddy was about 6 years old, the senior lady passed away and nobody in the family wanted him.  So a friend of the senior lady’s took Buddy.  All was well until the friend’s relationship went sour.  Buddy ended up staying with the husband of the friend as she was not able to keep Buddy in an apartment.

One day, on a cold December morning, the crazyman got a call from the senior’s friend (who was a co-worker) and asked if he still wanted a wiener dog.  Of course!!!!!  The only reason Buddy was given to us was that the husband ended up in the hospital and never told anyone.  Buddy was home alone for three days without any food or water or heat in the house.  The furance oil tank had gone dry,  poor little Buddy.  So Buddy came home with the crazyman at 2 am.  The husband wanted Buddy back but we said no.  He had just had his teeth cleaned and he was very happy with us.  He owns the big bed and has a glass of water on the night stand next to the bed.
