This Place is a Petting Zoo!

Wow we had a busy weekend!  Petfunfest was a lot of fun (for some).  Dogs everywhere, all smells and tails, it was a bit freaky for me.  The Dachshund meetup had over 50 weenies there and I was by far the prettiest!  Well there were a couple of puppies that were  the cutest.  That Robin is OK but I could sit on her and nobody would notice.    It was so fun smelling all the people who knew about me.

Where's the party?

Woo-hoo!

This is how I would look if I was red

Buzz made a showing....

Ok let's get out of here, now!

Thank you to all our members and friends who came by our table to say hi or make a donation, we need every dollar to help “our kind”.   We all talked at the meetup and agreed that we are lucky pups to have all these people taking care of us and making sure we only go to one more home, ever and ever.

Love April

Finally, I have my computer back

What?

It’s Frankie finally able to get back on my computer. Mom really did leave and it was a long week. I was all happy that she was home, then she left. Again. But this time she took Robin with her so I’m ok with it. I kinda hope she doesn’t bring her back again – nothing against Robin, but you know how I feel about all these other dogs.

I’m pretty sure they went to a show because there was all sorts of activity this morning carrying stuff up from the basement and into the car. I used to go to the shows and I’d get a special treat to chew but I really don’t like people reaching at me. I don’t know you, you don’t have food… why should I let you touch me?

Robin is going to come back smelling of all sorts of people with greasy pizza fingers and exhausted from a long day. I might bite her but I’ll try not to.

You’d think I’d have a lot to say after a week off, but I’m a bit grumpy and tired. I will leave you with something fun, though. Check this out!

Daddy keeps making scissors with his two fingers and saying “snip snip” to me and laughing.   Tomorrow I will go for a nap at the dog doctor and when I wake up I will be missing two little boy parts.  I know this is the way to go for me, I don’t want anymore puppies in the world without homes that end up in sad places like that shelter.   Wish me luck!

Be gentle.....

Paws Crossed that I’ll be Getting Hair Soon!

Hi- its me Doogle.

Why does that white stuff keep coming from up there?  It’s hard on a little fella without much hair.  Foster mom says I am looking more red and shiny and less grey but I’m skinny and bald on my belly.   I have to wear a sweater outside that doesn’t match my eyes and the daisies aren’t really my style but a homeless wiener can’t be too picky can he?

Navy is the new black

I do everything nose first, oh there are wonderful smells here; food, Ingrid the dog, food, toys, crumbs on the floor, people and food!  I sleep ALL THE TIME, I love to sleep and wake up and realize that I wasn’t dreaming; I’m safe and happy and loved.

Shhh! I'm sleeping.....

I’m Deke, I’m Buzz, I’m Happy!

Where is infinity and how do I get there?

I know you all called me Deke when I got out of that “place” but my Daddy calls me Buzz Lightyear cause I can g0 to “infinity and beyond!”  My new house is so cool.  I have a sister named April who is warming to my charms everyday.  We love to play tug of war and snuggle in the sun.  I have a cat named Bentley who isn’t so bad and lots of humans come over and talk about how cute I am.  Please note that under no circumstances am I to be cuter than April or things could get uncomfortable for me.

This week I am going to a place where I can get “fixed”.  I didn’t know I was broken.  Actually Mom said that because there are so many dogs in the world without nice homes that I need to do my part to make sure I don’t make any unwanted puppies.  That all makes sense to me, I’m not ready to be a “tween Dad”.

Hey I hope you will come and see me at Pet FunFest this weekend, I will be at the CDR booth with Mommy on Sunday at 10am giving out kisses and saying hello to all the nice people who helped me and Doogle in our time of need.

There’s a Deke in my House

February 5, 2010 at 7:21 am • Posted in April4 Comments

Hi I’m April and I’m cute and fluffy and sweet and beautiful and the prettiest girl Dox you have ever seen.  At least that’s what I tell people when I meet them.

My mom named me April because that is when I was found wondering around Toronto near the Don Valley Parkway, which is a big scary road with lots of cars.  I was just trying to get somebody’s attention to take me home and love me but I guess that wasn’t very safe.

I don’t remember my life before but I’m so sweet that somebody must have loved me.  CDR looked for my owners but nobody was looking for a lost sweet girl with a happy tail and toothy smile.  Mommy Angela has given thousands of hours of her life to helping rescue wieners so I won the lottery when she adopted me. I have the best life; Dad is home a lot during the day, I have a big backyard with a pool, two Grandmas and an Aunt Rachel who all love me because I’m so sweet, did I say that already?

Last week something called a Deke showed up at my house.  I wasn’t very impressed and told him right off to NOT touch MY toys.  He got the message and now we are cool.  When Deke told me his story I decided he could play with some of my toys and cuddle up to me in the sunshine.  Don’t tell anyone I said this but Deke is pretty cute!

April showers cuteness!

I loves me some snuggles

Chillin' with the peeps

I’m a puppy, a REAL puppy!

I am so happy at my foster home that I have almost forgotten about that sad and scary “place” -almost.  I’m feeling so much better my skin is less itchy, my nose is healing, oh and the food here is yummy!

Foster mom says I am getting braver, I discovered stairs the other day and got all the way to the top.  I had to get some help back down….  I love to be warm and snuggle and poke my nose wherever it will fit.  I sleep next to the heater when my foster mom and dad aren’t snuggling me – boy I feel lucky!  Mom says that there are people in the computer that are helping me to get better, wow I don’t know what to say, I just feel so…YAHOO!!

Licks and noses,

Doogle

Just where do you think you’re going!!!!???

Not without me!

You people think you’re so smart, but I know what’s going on. You pull out the big red case and I get stuck somewhere and you come back all tanned and happy smelling like mangoes and coconut. NOT THIS TIME! This time you’re taking me. I can fit in the bag.

Mom thinks she’s leaving for a week. She says I’m staying here with dad and the girls. I’m going to be extra-evil all week. I’m going to terrorize Holly. I’m going to whine for hours. I’m going to insist on going outside every fifteen minutes. I’m going to snuggle really close to dad in the bed so his back hurts in the morning, lick his pillow with my fishy tongue, and wake up 45 minutes before feeding time and ask to go out so it’s not worth his time to go back to sleep. He’ll never let her leave again. I’ve already made sure no friends or family will dogsit me, this is one more hurdle. I always get my way.

Oh, get this. She’s shutting down my computer when she goes! Don’t worry, I’ve spoken with Doogle and he promises to update you while I’m gone. He’s doing really well but you’ll hear from him soon. I’ll talk to you in a week or so.

Dog’s life. Huh. I hear they have a BUFFET. So unfair.

Help Canadian Dachshund Rescue win a $10,000 grant!

I usually write my own speech but there’s a bit of a form letter below. There’s a group affiliated with petfinder.com running a contest until April 18th. If CDR gets the most votes in any week we can be awarded $1000. If we win overall, we get $10,000. You can vote every day.

Please ask your friends and family to give us a click. That $1000 would really help!!!

We should all start clicking now to get that $10,000, but I was thinking of setting aside a week where I remind everyone every day to click and we can all post it to our dogbook and facebook and get our friends clicking. What do you think?

Hey friends,

Vote for CDR HERE  and we could win $10,000 to help pets in need.

The Animal Rescue Site is hosting a special challenge for eligible Petfinder.com member shelter and rescue groups. The grand prize is a $10,000 grant, and they will be awarding many other grants to rescue groups with the most votes — a total of $100,000 in grants for animal welfare organizations.

Think how many animals we could help for $10,000!

Help us win! All you have to do is click to help rescued animals, and then vote in The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge. Both of these actions are absolutely free! You can vote once a day, every day, from January 18th through April 18th, 2010. Every time you vote, or tell a friend to vote, you are making a huge difference for us.

Vote today!

Get out of my way - I have to click that site!

Farewell From Guest Speaker Beeker

February 1, 2010 at 9:35 pm • Posted in Guest Speaker Beeker5 Comments

Hello to our faithful CDR blog followers.

I’m here to announce my retirement from blogging and shows.  I’m an old man now.  I am 12.  I get tired and I’m slowing down.  I can’t last as long as I used to and when I get tired I become a grumpy old man.  Mom says I get really grouchy.

So I’m passing the torch to our younger bloggers (and yes Robin, prettier).  I’ve had a lot of fun blogging and meeting people and dogs at the shows.  I will miss you all, but I am going to enjoy my nice comfy bed and laying in the sunlight.

This is Guest Speaker Beeker signing off….keep reading and keep helping my friends at CDR.
