Guest Speaker Beeker here

Dad camera 186Hi, I’m the Guest Speaker.  My name is Beeker.  My human is a volunteer with the Canadian Dachshund Rescue.  I’m not actually a rescue dog.  Hence the guest speaker status.  My new sister is Meggie.  She’s a bit of a diva, but I love her none the less.  If she tries to pick on me I just stand still (I’m too big so she can’t move me).

I’ve been to some of the CDR shows this past year.  My first outing was the 2009 Sportsman’s Show.  I got to wear a really snazzy cowboy hat and I met tons of nice people and great dogs who were CDR dogs.  Then I did the 2009 All About Pets Show in the CDR booth and then 2009 Woofstock in the CDR booth (I liked going on the Rescue Me Walk-a-thon to raise money for my friends in the Rescue) and then I went to our annual CDR picnic.  I’ve been a busy and social boy.

I’m going to go to the Deck the Halls with Dachshunds event too!  I can’t wait for all the great fundraising events for CDR this year.  But don’t forget donations are always welcome.  I like to help my friends and this year a lot of them have needed CDR’s help.  I hope to see you at one of our events!!

Does this picture make my nose look big?

Hi, it’s me Robin and I’m a dachshund and I live with dachshunds and I really really like it and I like people and I like rubs and pets and I’m really really pretty. I used to go to dog shows and I used to have puppies and then they were taken away and then I had more puppies and then they were gone and then my owner died and then I was sad because there was no one to pet me anymore. I went to the rescue and they were nice because they pet me and then they took me to the vet and the vet did some stuff so I can’t have more puppies and they also fixed a hole called a hernia. When I felt better I went to a new foster home and I really liked it because they pet me but I didn’t know why I kept moving to new homes because everybody loves me.

After a week in my new foster home I was adopted by someone they called the president and she wanted me because I’m so pretty and I’m nice and she can take me with her to CDR events. I have a house and a yard and a fire and lots of beds and I sleep in the bed and my people are home all the time so they can always pet me. Sometimes when they are working they don’t pet me and I put my face on the keyboard and jump on them and lick them and they call me ‘annoying’.

I’m happy there’s a blog about me because there’s nothing better than me. I hope you get to know me and you can go to CDR shows and pet me. You can tell me I’m pretty and I’ll kiss you. Unless I’m asleep. Don’t bug me when I’m asleep.

About CDR

Canadian Dachshund Rescue (Ontario) is an all-volunteer rescue organization that rehabilitates and rehomes dachshunds in Ontario. All dogs that enter our program are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and have their immediate medical needs seen to. The dogs stay in foster homes until new homes are found for them. Because we’re all volunteers and we help dogs from our own homes, we have very low overhead costs so more of your donations can go directly to medical bills for the dogs. We’ve been operating since 2001 and have placed over 700 dachshunds in new homes.

This blog is the dog’s side of the story. It’s written by dogs for dog lovers. Some dogs have been in one home since puppyhood, some were adopted years ago, some are newly adopted, and some are waiting for homes. All of them have a unique personality and perspective. For them rescue is not about business or politics, it’s about life and love.

It’s about time

Throw me a bone

Throw me a bone

Hey everyone, this is Frankie. I run Canadian Dachshund Rescue with the help of some other dogs and humans. I’ve wanted a blog for years. I bet if mom had started one for me when I told her to I’d be famous by now. She’s also promised to set up some other stuff on the site but we’ll see if that happens.

A bit about me. I’m an 11 year old black and tan dappled dachshund. I’ve been helping CDR since day one, in fact, mom says I was the inspiration behind the rescue. Hundreds of dachshunds have passed through CDR since then, but it had to start somewhere, right? I’ve put up with lots of foster dogs in my house and mom even adopted some along the way, though I’d prefer to be an only dog. I like eating, sunbeams, marking things, and eating. I dislike exercise, wearing sweaters, not eating, and people who gesticulate when they talk.

So here’s what’s going to happen. I and some guest authors are going to give you the inside story behind the rescue. The rescue people always say “it’s all about the dogs” but no one ever ASKS the dogs what they think. We’ll tell you the real story.
